Every year I would go to Venice Beach for the Western Shootout during Labor Day weekend. It was an experience that I looked forward to each year. Great basketball, food, and hanging with the fellas was the highlight of that weekend.
The tournament stopped being held by the original creators in the mid 2000’s. Others took over that same weekend and gave their own tournaments but none ever compared to the original.
But, in 2012, they had Hall of Fame Ceremony for the guys that played there in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. It was a great time. Well, they also used to do a top of the backboard contest every year. So, with that said, in 2012 they decided to hold another one.
I have seen many men jump as high as I thought you could jump but Kirpatrick McCauley was absolutely unreal. Here are some photos that I took that day.
